First Day!
Today was the first day to Seattle! We rode 65 miles from Baltimore to York,PA on a gravel nature road which was nice because it was flat. The amount of energy it takes to keep that bike moving, even on a flat road is insane. My body is exhausted, but it is all worth because I just completed a huge milestone already during my trip. I survived the first day. I fell once (minor fall due to clip ins) and almost ran over a garden snake who was trying to cross the road. My butt and triceps and legs and feet are sore but I'm going to get up at 5am tomorrow morning and do it all again. Let those who inspired us to help this cause in the beginning have a lasting affect on us throughout the ride.

Lindsay! It's Matt! Congratulations on your start! You're on your way now and you're doing great things. We're all soooo proud of you. :) KICK BUTT AND TAKE NAMES!!!
ReplyDeleteLindsay I was telling everyone today about how I proud I am of you. I happened to be browsing on the computer for my homework around the time that send-off happened, so I checked Facebook and I saw so many posts about it! I told my roommate that you had just taken off a few minutes ago!! I am so excited. I'm sorry for your fall, but everyone falls in the beginning so don't worry! That's funny that you saw a snake! Wow! Your triceps are sore? Careful with the weight you're putting on your arms. Your body will want to lean forward on your arms while going up hills, especially when you're exhausted, but try to avoid that as much as you can. As for tomorrow, take it one water stop at a time. Don't think "60 miles left." Think "10 miles left," or however many you have left until the next water stop. Do not give up. Your body may hurt, but as long as you push through, your soul will be happy. Remember the mission, too; you're cycling for Team Iliana. Try writing on your calves the names of the people you dedicate the day to. Think about how much worse it is to have cancer. Realize that you are lucky to be young and healthy, and to have strong legs. You can do this!!
